How to control SoundCloud with an Elgato Stream Deck

The Windows plugins do not connect to a private SoundCloud API. They use the media session that the active player publishes to Windows. That keeps the setup simple, but it also means Stream Deck can only display metadata and send commands the player makes available.

Use Playback - Windows for one visible action per key, or Now Playing - Windows for deeper control from one Stream Deck+ dial.

SoundCloud provides a Windows desktop app and a browser experience. Its official Windows documentation describes library, discovery, search, and background play or skip control. Test the Windows app if you want SoundCloud to appear as a distinct source; test the web player if that is how you normally listen.

SoundCloud queues often move through likes, playlists, albums, feeds, or autoplay recommendations. Previous and next therefore depend on where playback started. A control can be working correctly even when the current SoundCloud context has no meaningful previous item.

Do this short test before buying or styling a complete profile. It separates a player-session problem from a Stream Deck layout problem.

1. Choose the SoundCloud Windows app or web player and keep the test focused on that route.
2. Start a track from the middle of a playlist or liked-tracks list.
3. Confirm the title, artwork, progress, and playback state exposed to Windows.
4. Test previous and next against the same queue rather than an isolated track.
5. For browser playback, close other media tabs until SoundCloud is stable.

Choose by control surface rather than price. Playback is the fit when you want literal, glanceable keys. Now Playing is the fit when you own Stream Deck+ and want more of the player available from one physical control.

3. Choose keys or a dial

4. Install the selected plugin

   Purchase it once through Elgato Marketplace, install it, and open its actions in Stream Deck.

5. Build the SoundCloud controls

   Add live now playing, play or pause, previous, next, and volume, plus seek and source views when available.

6. Test tracks and long mixes

   Verify the standard tracks, playlists, and long-form mixes you use because timeline and queue behavior can differ.

Start with play or pause and live now playing. Add previous, next, volume, and deeper dial views only after the basic session stays reliable in the player you chose.

• Start from a playlist or liked-tracks list when previous and next are important to your workflow.
• Treat SoundCloud desktop and SoundCloud web as separate targets; establish one before testing the other.
• Long mixes may publish a timeline differently from ordinary tracks, so test the content format you actually listen to.
• If autoplay takes over after a queue ends, confirm the new track remains part of the same Windows media session.

The reliable profile is the one tested against your real listening context, not the one with the most actions. Remove any control the current player never exposes consistently.
